MHDS ~ Season
2009/2010
Our season runs from September through to June with six main plays (which are
staged entirely by MHDS) plus various visiting productions, Octagon Films
cinema nights, and a variety of special events and activities. The list below
includes forthcoming events which have been booked thus far, and new items will
be included as they become scheduled - watch this space. Evening performances
normally start at 7.45 (doors open 7.15), matinees at 2.30 (doors 2pm). There
are some exceptions, but these showtimes are printed on posters and
tickets.
Outside Edge by Richard Harris Assembling the village cricket team is no easy task for the harassed captain. Complications arise on and off the pitch, not only between the players, but also between wives and girlfriends ! (The performance on Monday 14th is a Gala Night for the local branch of the national charity, British Red Cross.) Strangers On A Train by Craig Warner Two young men meet on a train. As the train rolls along, they speculate on what it would be like to commit the perfect murder. Little do they know that their lives will soon become fatally linked forever. (Adapted from the novel by Patricia Highsmith) The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams Set in America, about a woman who clings to yesteryear. She lives with her son and her crippled daughter, whose separation from reality increases until she is like one of her glass collection, too fragile to move from the shelf. A very tender play. The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood Penelope - wife of Odysseus and cousin of Helen of Troy - is a symbol of wifely duty and devotion. She waits twenty years while he fights the Trojan War and has adventures, slaying monsters and grappling with amorous goddesses. Translations by Brian Friel In County Donegal, a detachment of the Royal Engineers is sent on behalf of the British Army to make the First Ordnance Survey. A British soldier falls for an Irish peasant girl. His murder causes the British Army to seek revenge. (Gala Night on Monday 26th.) Farewell, Farewell Eugene by Rodney Ackland A comedy set in Edwardian London. Two sisters, daughters of the vicarage, live in genteel poverty, making a meagre living composing uplifting verses for greetings cards, but send most of the proceeds to missionary work in Africa. (Based on a story by John Vari.) |
